The Abu-Ghraib defense - Part 2

Well it is no surprise that the White House has quickly got its act together and now is out in front of the White House leak story rather than playing catch up. As I said (apparently quite controversially) here, I expect the White House to roll out the small group of overly zealous individuals defense when/if Libby and Rove are indicted.

Part Two came out in today's NYTimes (take it with a grain of salt--first Jayson Blair and then Judith Miller) has this choice article - Cheney Told Aide of C.I.A. Officer, Lawyers Report. So now we know, thanks to "lawyers involved in the case" that Cheney told Libby about Valerie Plame/Wilson several weeks before Robert Novak published her identity.

Again, look at the nice set-up of plausible deniability...Cheney was telling his Chief of Staff about Plame/Wilson (which is perfectly legal and acceptable since both would have high level security clearance), but Libby overstepped his bounds to protect his boss from Wilson's claims/attack.

As much as the Republican media machine makes me ill sometimes, I do respect it. Orchestrating this response so far has been excellent and will only get better as more information comes out to further finger Libby. I would guess 2-3 more overzealous Libby reports before the grand jury meets on Friday. Operation: Finger Scooter is in full effect.
