The Passing of an Era

| Yesterday, my bus route retired the iconic Routemaster double-decker red bus. After 40 years of running these old buses have finally given up the ghost. Transport for London has decreed that all of them will be out of service, save 2 Heritage routes, by the end of 2005. The new buses are handicap accessible and have room for moms with strollers (prams). I will certainly miss the open platform and the onboard conductor, but the newer buses are much more comfortable with more space and better seats. While I'm nostalgic for the old buses, I understand that the new ones are truly a step forward. |
