Compressed Air Cars

Why isn't this an answer?

I'm trying to figure out what the "downside" is to pushing the US government to provide huge incentives to Detroit to make these cars? What would happen if the gov't set strict production minimums and offered big tax incentives to car makers to make these engines and then additional incentives for American consumers to buy them? I hear talk of "compressed air/gasoline hybrids" that exist right now and can go 65 mph from Los Angeles to New York on ONE tank of gas! On the other hand I keep hearing all this political chatter about "reducing our dependence on foreign oil," but, with these cars in existence in France and India and actually going into mass production within the next 6 months - the sincerity of American political leaders in relation to foreign oil now hangs in the balance... doesn't it? None of us have the power to push Big Oil into a corner, but our elected leaders do IF they have the will!
