How both the left and right are wrong on Terri Schiavo

I haven't weighed in on the Terri Schiavo discussion much because there are plenty of other websites with a lot more information about her and her case. Yet I did notice that both sides of this argument are extremely hypocritical about Terri's case and some of their core beliefs.

Let's start with the Right. The Republicans stayed late Friday night and returned to work on Saturday to pass the Incapacitated Persons Legal Protection Act. President Bush will cut short his stay at his animal-less ranch to sign the bill. Republicans are willing to work late to pass Federal legislation to ensure a woman who is in a "persistent, vegetative state" continues to receive top quality health care. Yet, Republicans shot down Clinton's health care plan and refuse to consider using Federal laws to help ANY of the 45 million or so uninsured Americans receive even basic health care. Clearly something is incongruous here.

However, it isn't just the Right that is wrong. The Left is fighting to let this woman die. But let's get this straight...it isn't just leaving this woman alone. For her to die, this requires someone to deny her food and water. That is killing in my book. The Left is against putting people to death. It fights tooth and nail to get convicted murderers from being killed by the state. Yet somehow Terri Schiavo, a very innocent person, should be killed by state order.

If anyone can explain how either side's position is harmonious with their core beliefs, please let me hear it in the comments!
