Game 3 against GB recap

On game on Monday got rained out (and rescheduled) so our first game of the week was yesterday.

And somehow the 18-2 loss doesn't seem so bad.

It doesn't seem so bad because we were in the game until the bottom of the 4th. I won't bore you with each inning's details, but we came out flat in the 1st and didn't score any runs. GB, on the other hand, put up 3 in the bottom of the 1st. In the 2nd, we put runners on, but couldn't score. They scored 2 in the bottom of the 2nd after we made a couple of stupid errors.

But in the top of the 3rd, we scored 2 on a triple. The next two batters walked. We had bases loaded with 1 out. Unfortunately, the next batter struck out. The 3rd out of the inning when she ground out to 1st. 5-2 in the middle of the 3rd and left the bases full.

In the bottom of the 3rd, my pitcher got pounded and they put 4 legitimate runs on the board. 9-2 going into the top of the 4th. We needed to put a few runs on the board, but were unable. I tried to get agressive on the basepaths and our only runner of the inning was thrown out trying to steal 2nd.

In the bottom of the 4th, we were a comedy of errors. It was truly embarrasing. We had dropped balls. Bad throws. People in the wrong position. Instead of giving our opponents just 3 outs, we decided they needed 7. And they made us pay. We gave up 9 runs that inning. 18-2 going into the top of the 5th. We needed 7 runs to avoid the mercy rule.

And it started out so well. The first batter walked. The second batter reached first on an error by the catcher. 1st and 2nd with no outs. We were looking pretty. The next batter hit the ball solid AND RIGHT AT the right fielder. With 1 out, I was trying to get my runners to be more agressive so we could score on a single. I was egging them to take a bigger lead. It was working because it was getting in the head of the pitcher. But ultimatley it was our demise. On a 3-0 fastball, my batter popped up to short center field. The 2B caught the ball. My runner had taken a big lead and it was a race to the bag. The Second Baseman got there first; doubling up our runner for the final out of the game.

18-2, but somehow we seemed more competitive than that.

At today's practice, we are practicing/teaching baserunning. Another game tomorrow. We'll get beat. Wish us luck.
