Game 2 against JDS recap

Yesterday we were back on the diamond in our second game of the season. It was after 12 days off due to Spring Break. I expected we'd be competitive against JDS, but it turned out that we were too rusty to do much of anything.

In the top of the 1st, we went 1-2-3. In the bottom of the 1st, I told the team that we had to play good fundamental softball and not make any mistakes. We promptly did. The first two batters walked and then the third batter hit a slow grounder to my SS, who turned and threw to 3B for the force. The softball hit the runner square in the back. Everyone was safe. The next batter walked, forcing in a runner. The 5th batter of the inning grounded to the SS, who booted the ball and allowed another runner to score.

Bases loaded and still no outs. The 6th batter of the inning hit a routine pop-fly behind 2B. My second baseman dropped the ball. Another run scored. 3-0.

The 7th batter hit a line drive up the middle that scored 2. She advanced to 2nd on the throw. 5-0 with no outs and runners on 2nd and 3rd. The 8th batter grounded to the 3B who threw her out at 1st, but allowing a run to score. 6-0 and 1 out.

The 9th batter walked and stole 2nd. Against, 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. The top of the order was up again. She walked. Loading the bases. The number 2 hitter grounded out to 1st for an out, but also a run. 7-0 with 2 outs. The number 3 hitter stroked a ball into right center. She drove in 1 run, but we threw her out trying to stretch a single into a double. End of inning. 8-0 to JDS.

The top of the 2nd, we went 1-2-3. In the bottom of the 2nd, JDS got the first two runners on and they both scored on a double to left center, but then they went down 1-2-3. 10-0 at the end of 2.

10-0 at the end of 3 as both sides were unable to get anyone on base.

10-0 at the end of the 4th. JDS emptied their bench and they weren't able to hit the ball in the bottom. We got 2 runners on at the top of the 4th, but couldn't score.

At the top of the 5th, we went 1-2-3 all on strikeouts.

And the mercy rule set in. The game was over in 70 minutes. We went home very dejected because we gave the game away. Our next game is Monday. It is a game we can win. We shall see if we do.
