It is possible to walk around Washington DC and not get shot at
I'd like to make a Public Service Announcement...I know this from personal experience. Mrs. Expat Teacher and I have been walking around the Capitol Hill area for a week and 1/2 and not a single gunshot has been heard.
I only say this because not one, two or even three friends worried about me walking, but FOUR family members or friends have openly expressed concern about us walking around DC in the past couple of days.
Urban "law" dictates that violent crimes tend to happen by poor people against poor people. Nice middle class folk rarely get gunned down or even mugged. So rest assured we're safe.
