A little busy today, so let me direct you to two good articles that address things discussed in the comments in the posts below.

First, the NYTimes has the Israeli and Lebanese views on 'proportionality' of attacks.

Second is the DLC's response to the Middle Eastern Crisis. They want 4 things.

Make it clear it repudiates the rejectionist claim that Israel has no right to exist as a Jewish State and condemns terrorism against Israel just as it does terrorism against any other state.
Find a way to enforce the long-standing UN mandate that Hezbollah be disarmed.
Intensify pressure against Hamas to recognize Israel and reject terrorism if it wants to be regarded as a legitimate governing party.
Isolate and sanction Iran and Syria until such time as they stop serving as staging grounds and paymasters for rejectionist terrorism.

Sounds about right to me.
