Why are Republicans so interested in your bedroom?

Ok, I don't live in the South, so I don't really understand their politics, but can ANYONE explain this to me?

Bill would make sale of sex toys illegal in South Carolina

"The South Carolina bill, proposed by Republican Rep. Ralph Davenport, would make it a felony to sell devices used primarily for sexual stimulation and allow law enforcement to seize sex toys from raided businesses."

Aren't Republicans the party of limited government? Restricting how couples make love seems to be the antithesis of 'limited government' unless Republicans mean limited enjoyment and limited choices.

"Though the laws don’t punish people for owning sex toys, banning their sale is a backdoor attempt to discourage their use, Mr. Lopez said."

Look I'm no fan of pornography or the subjugation of women as sex objects, but let's not confuse that with couples that have legitimate uses for sex toys. Health, surgery and added 'spice' to a lifelong partnership are valid reasons for a couple to use sex toys. If the government wants to go after hardcore pornographers, more power to 'em, but don't punish couples trying to love one another in the process.

Even more surprising is that "Other states that ban the sell of sex toys include Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi and Texas." No wonder Desperate Housewives is so popular there.
