Procreate within 3 years or your marriage is annulled

MoLak-Jedi is a little concerned about the proposed I-957 in Washington State. If passed, "It would require heterosexual couples to have children within three years or else have their marriages annulled."

This initiative is being put forth by gay-marriage advocates who are using the Washington Supreme Court's own ruling as basis for the initiative. "In that 5-4 ruling, the court found that state lawmakers were justified in passing the 1998 Defense of Marriage Act, which restricts marriage to unions between a man and a woman. In defending the act, the ruling specifically mentioned a state interest in furthering procreation."

However, no one expects this to pass. I certainly hope it doesn't, Mrs. Expat Teacher and I would have to get married again.

Even Gregory Gadow who filed the position doesn't think Mrs. Expat Teacher and I are in any trouble. "But [Gadow] said he highly doubts that any of the initiatives will pass, and that they are being done "in the spirit of political street theater."
"Our intention is not to actually put this into law," he said. "All we want is to get this on the ballot and cause people to talk about it."

What do you think? Do Christians who offer up procreation as a reason for hetereosexual marriage have to offer up the goods?
