Not the Christian Way - or the right way

I wrote this last week and it took all the restraint I had not to post it, but I didn't want to tamper with Hefe Week 2006. But I am still fired up and need to get this out there.

Recently somewhat very near and dear to me got screwed over by their employer. They were in a position of management and someone beneath them went over their head to their boss to complain about something. The complainer (we'll call Carl) never went to my friend (we'll call Henry) and even when Henry approached Carl to see why his demeanor and attitude were so poor, Carl did nothing to help resolve any conflict. As a result, Henry got fired. Never once did Henry's boss tell Henry what any of the complaints were, so Henry never got to defend himself or explain his side or even apologize for whatever wrong doing had happened. And now, with the state being an "at will" work state and with Henry having only worked there a few months (where he got very positive job reviews the entire time), Henry is unemployed and recieving nothing and starting from scratch on finding a new job while Carl is just merrily still at work with nothing going against him except hopefully a very guilty conscience.

But I don't find myself being as upset with Carl as I am with the company (Prestige Care, Inc.). And part of it comes from the company's website, where they have this page
listing the company's "values":

TRUST Character is of such high value to us that our word and our actions will always be true.

What "respect" did they show Henry? What esteem did they show towards his life? What "integrity" does it show to railroad someone out of a job like that? Is their "commitment" to Carl's special purpose of ruining someone else's life? Why should anyone "trust" a company that values the character of someone like Carl over someone like Henry?

In Matthew 18: 15 -17, we read:

15 “If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. 16 But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every charge may be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses. 17 If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.

Carl has not followed this at all. And the company, despite talking like a Christian company, has rewarded him for that. It's wrong - whether the company is Christian or not. The Word of the Lord is not simply good instructions for Christian living, it's good instruction for ALL of living. I ache for the pain this has caused Henry, but I rejoice that he no longer has to spend time every day being brought down by the nasty, selfish, and wrong practices of Carl and the Prestige Care company.
