Friday Prayer Blogging - Middle East edition

Somehow my blog post slipped my mind earlier today and only now (on the cusp on Saturday) am I getting to it. Apologies to all early morning American readers.

Today's prayer is simply for the Middle East. It is an area of absolute turmoil lately and we need the Holy Spirit there now more than ever.

Let us pray

Holy Spirit please bring peace to the Middle East. May peace reign in Iraq. Lord bind the evil doers there. Keep the bombs from exploding and the itchy fingers from the triggers. Please guide the politicians to create a constitution by their Tuesday deadline that will represent the Iraqi people fairly and move them toward self-governance.

Jesus, I ask that you would bring wise council to the ruling body of Iran. Please show them the horrors of the atomic bomb and the dangers of a nuclear arms race in the Middle East. Please bring a spirit of compromise to Iranian leaders so they will work with the E3 over the nuclear program.

Father, we cry out for continued peace and stability in the Holy Lands. I know that geographic area is of special importance to you, so please empower the peacemakers to move toward peace and don't let evil stand in the way. Holy Spirit bring a real desire for peace over bloodshed to the Gaza Strip and make everyone work toward justice and stability in that land.

Lord may democracy be strengthen throughout the region. May the Lebanese government work freely, without Syrian involvement, for the good of their people. May the opposition parties in Egypt offer a real challenge and choice for Egyption voters for the first time in 20 years.

Father I know this is an impossible request, but I know that through Christ all things are possible. Please increase my faith by honoring these requests.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

As always, feel free to leave prayer requests or praises in the comments
