Maybe I'm guilty of trying to start a new meme, but....
come on, what's the Republican plan for anything?On a west coast fundraising swing today, President Bush declared Democrats shouldn't be trusted to run Congress because "If you listen closely to some of the leaders of the Democratic Party, it sounds like -- it sounds like -- they think the best way to protect the American people is, wait until we're attacked again."
SAY WHAT?!?!?!
Has any Democrat ever said such a thing? There is misspeaking and there is just plain lying.
Shall we break this down?
First, executing the war and/or protecting the homeland falls squarely on the shoulders of the EXECUTIVE branch, headed by the President. The LEGISLATIVE branch only passes the laws about conduct of the US military and provides money for the war effort. If the Democrats take over the Congress (legislative branch) this November, it will have zero effect on how the war on Iraq and Afghanistan is fought on the ground.
More importantly, why should the Republicans be trusted to run the government? I could give a laundry list of reasons why Republicans shouldn't (and I'm sure the comments will fill with them), but can I just focus on what President Bush thinks he is doing so well? The War on Iraq and Terror.
Let's review some of the facts, the CIA believes the Iraq War has energized an entire generation that feel anger and animosity toward America and Americans. A recent University of Maryland survey has shown that 60% of Iraqis feel it is acceptable to kill Americans and 70% want Americans out within a year. Osama Bin Laden and Ayman Al Zawahiri are still at large. Now we learn from Bob Woodward's new book (take with a grain of salt) that the Bush administration has been in a state of denial for almost 3 years about the Iraq War specifically and foreign policy in general.
So while President Bush believes that Democrats think the best way to protect America is to wait until we are attacked again, President Bush is acting like that is the best way to protect America.
Republicans have no plan.
