How Does Obama Recover?
The Rev. Jeremiah Wright Strikes Back and continues to play the Race Card. I really do wonder about the extent to which he is aware that everything he does helps Clinton now and McCain in a few months? I think I understand that his primary concern is with the public perception and well-being of the Black Church, but does he really think that, in the long run, the Black Church would not be greatly helped by having “one of their own” in the White House?A Blogger: “I don't agree with everything Rev. Wright says, even after hearing the entire sermon, but I understand his point. Why doesn't the media put his comments in context? Is the media really that driven by profit and conflict? In the meantime gas is approaching $4 a gallon and there are food riots. Let's move on to the real news.
Melissa Harris-Lacewell (Associate Professor of Politics and African American Studies at Princeton University): “Yes, the media IS that profit driven. Take it from someone who does a lot of broadcast media hits. Even though there are smart and ethical journalists and producers and editors working in the industry, the industry itself is competing for viewers, listeners, and readers in a way that makes it difficult to penetrate the noise of scandal and get to underlying issues. I agree with you that it's a side issue we shouldn't be so focused on, but that's how politics works."
