What's the Deal with Saddam?

In the same vein as Expat's post the other day regarding the Moussaoui trial, I need some help understanding the trial of Saddam Hussein. First off, is he being tried in the United States justice system or in some sort of international forum? Second, can he get a fair trial in any venue? I mean, is anyone going to find this guy innocent? And if they did, what do we do with him? Just let him go? Don't get me wrong, I don't think he's a great guy or innocent or anything like that. But what must it be like to know that your trial is a formality and therefore a sham? That no matter what you say or what evidence comes to light, you will be found guilty?
