Dying; awake, paralyzed, unable to move or breathe, while potassium burned through your veins

According to a report in The Lancet British medical journal, 4 in 10 executed prisoners may have been conscience during their execution. While the authors concede that a lack of information from several states does make this study incomplete, their evidence from autopsies of 49 inmates showed a lower concentration of anesthetic in the blood than needed for simple surgery. Without being anestetized, the inmate would be killed, but awake, paralyzed, unable to move or breathe while potassium burned through their veins.

This is cruel. We wouldn't let someone kill a dog this way, how can we kill one of God's children like this? America needs to declare a moratorium on executions and have a serious debate on this. Capital punishment is a giant failure. It doesn't keep down murder rates, it isn't applied equally (the rich and white don't get capital sentences), and it is a slap in God's face.

Can any Christian out there offer a coherent argument for capital punishment?
